This Kid...

...made his lunch today almost completely on his own. He assembled and cut his peanut butter and honey sandwich, sliced an apple into wedges (I'm still wondering how he managed that with only a butter knife), and made a really good attempt at slicing cheese, but ultimately needed my help slicing with a sharp knife. Then he decided he needed a banana, so he sliced that up too.

He ate everything on his plate and was still hungry, so he had a some yogurt afterwards. Now I understand the stereotype about boys eating everything in sight!

This Kid...

....really loves babies. Our three nieces stayed at our house for half a day this weekend and Tommy so enjoyed spending time with his baby cousin. He made funny faces at her to make her smile, gave her toys, and even fed her part of her dinner. Up until just a few months ago, he's been nothing than a rough-and-tumble-all-boy kind of boy, so it makes my heart happy to see my oldest son show so much tenderness towards babies.

These Kids...

...love figuring out how things work. Mark's uncle sent us a music box for a housewarming present and the kids sit down to "watch" a song play probably once a day since we received it. They enjoy listening to Mark explain how the music box works. (Every single day, of course.) Oh, to have a mind that understand mechanical things! Luckily I've got three guys who can help me.

This Kid...

...has reached the age of guns. He will make a gun out of anything. Our best guess is that he learned about guns from watching Wall-E, where the EVE character tries to blast Wall-E with her laser gun. He doesn't realize yet that guns normally shoot bullets and hurt people (I think we'll leave that part out for awhile).

In Tommy's world, guns usually shoot water or fire, and they're used against imaginary "bad guys", or the brothers will take turns being bad guys. I have no idea where he learned about the concept of 'bad guys' -- maybe just more innate knowledge that surfaces once boys turn 3½? This is his latest invention, a "water sprayer" made of Tinkertoys.

This Kid...

Has woken up dry in the morning every day this past week!  We have a new routine where he wakes up between 5:00am-7:00am and immediately yells, "Mommy, I have to go potty!", then I sneak in his room and get him out without waking up Ben, take him to the bathroom, then put him back to bed with a few books.  I've convinced him that 7:00am (his normal wake up time) is still nighttime, and I guess since it's dark out and Ben is still asleep, he accepts that.  One more week of waking up dry and he'll get to graduate to underwear for bedtime!

This Kid...

Climbed over our front fence yesterday and was found playing a puddle next to our street by Mark's mom, who just happened to be driving by at the time.  (!!!!)  Needless to say, he will no longer be allowed to play in the front yard unsupervised!

Notice the very un-guilty look in both photos?
